Home by Hattie (Hattie, for short) is a household organiser: jobs, shopping, meal plans, guests, recipes, a freezer list, photos and, if you choose, a link to your Google calendar, tasks and photos. This page says plainly what happens to the information you put in.

Who runs it

Home by Hattie is run by A Johnson, in New Zealand. In this page, "we" means A Johnson. You can reach us at support@homebyhattie.com.

Whose information it is

What a household enters belongs to that household. Each household's information is kept in its own separate database, and the app only ever shows a person the information of the household they belong to. We don't sell it, share it, use it for advertising, or look through it, apart from what is needed to keep the service running or when a household asks for help.

What we hold, and why

• Your household's information: everything you type in or upload, including photos and the names of people in your household (adults add children's names to lists; children don't have accounts). We keep it so the app can show it back to you.
• Your account: your email address and a sign-in value made from your password. Your password itself is scrambled on your own device before it is sent and is never stored or readable by us.
• Sign-in cookies: they keep a device signed in and are used for nothing else. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
• Network address: briefly, to block people who keep trying wrong passwords or PINs.
• Messages you send us: feedback sent from inside the app arrives with your email address so we can reply.
• Error reports: when something breaks, the app may send us a short technical note (the error message and the page it happened on), not your household's content.

Google (only if you connect it)

Connecting Google is your choice, and the app works without it. If you connect, Home by Hattie asks Google for these permissions and uses them only for the purpose shown:

• Calendar events (view and edit events on your calendars): to show your household's calendars on the family calendar and Today screens, and to let you add, change and delete events from the app.
• Calendar list (see the list of calendars you're subscribed to, read only): so you can choose which calendars to show and where new events are saved.
• Tasks (see and manage your tasks): to show your default Google Tasks list next to your household's jobs, and to let you add, tick off and delete tasks.
• Google Photos picker (see photos you select): so you can pick photos in Google's own picker to show on the household photo frame. We only receive the photos you choose.

What we keep: a sign-in token, stored with your household and used only for the features above. Events and tasks are read from Google when you open the app and are not copied into our database. Photos you pick are copied into your household's private storage so the photo frame keeps working.

Home by Hattie's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. In particular:

• We use Google data only to provide and improve the features you see in the app.
• We never sell it, transfer it to anyone else, or use it for advertising or to build profiles.
• We never use it to develop, improve or train generalised artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models.
• No person reads your Google data, except where you ask us for help and agree, where it is needed to investigate abuse or keep the service secure, or where the law requires it.

You can disconnect Google at any time in Settings. Disconnecting cancels the permission with Google and removes our stored sign-in token. You can also remove access yourself in your Google account under Security, "Your connections to third-party apps and services".

Where it is stored, and who else is involved

Your household's information is stored with Cloudflare, the company that hosts Hattie. Cloudflare runs a worldwide network, so your information may be stored or handled in other countries as well as New Zealand. We use Cloudflare's security features and don't give them any reason to look at your content. If you connect Google, Google is involved as described above. When paid plans start, a payment company will handle card details (we won't see or store card numbers), and we'll update this page. We don't share your information with anyone else, unless the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep your household's information for as long as the household exists. When a household is deleted its information is deleted too, though it may stay briefly in our hosting provider's backups before it disappears.

Your choices and rights

• A household can ask us for a copy of all of its information, and can ask for its household, accounts and photos to be deleted completely.
• Under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email us at the address above.
• When someone is removed from a household they are signed out straight away, and a household owner can sign everyone out of other devices.
• If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, tell us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).

Children

Home by Hattie is for adults to run. Children don't sign up; an adult may add a child's first name to a list, and that stays inside the household.

Changes to this page

If we change this page in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and tell households in the app.
